Karn, Me and D.J. DePree

As most follow and look to Sam Maloof, James Krenov, or Nakashima for their readings and inspiration, I look to the ground breaking furniture manufacturer, DJ DePree who lives on through the firm he created; Herman Miller.

I'm very excited to present this interview with Karn Adams a Retail Development Specialist at Herman Miller and hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.

D.J. DePree is our greatest furniture manufacturer.

Enjoy the history and answers that Karn so wonderfully provides.

LumberJocks - Thorsen Challenge Entry

Here's our entry in LumberJocks Thorsen Side table Challenge.
I know we were going to build it together but my time and the challenge deadline forced me to just go for it.
The objective of selecting this challenge at the Lumberjocks forum however, still remains the same..... to see other woodworkers work!!! You will witness that as I expected, excellent CREATIVITY occurred.
So now is the time to wonder over to Lumberjocks and have a look at the craftsmanship of fellow on-line woodworkers.

International Contemporary Furniture Fair -ICFF 01

On May 19th and 20th, 2007, Gigi and I covered the International Contemporary Furniture Fair also know as the "ICFF".

Thanks to Kara Tobin of Tobin and Tucker; our access to exhibiting designers provided for exceptional information that all of us can think on.

Hopefully with each of the following episodes, I will get you the feel of this prestigious show.

I selected exhibiting designers that I fealt had something to offer. My judgement proved itself when I learned "HIDA" won the Craftsmanship award. I probably have the only interview. It is in Japanese and is in the process of being translated.

Enjoy this opening taste as I prepare our interviews for posting.Â

Lingerie Cabinet - Finish Samples and Drawers Episode 7

Back again for another webisode of Building a Contemporary Lingerie Cabinet.

Of course we start with taking care of the buisness of woodworking then proceed to make color samples for the finish on our piece. We'll go through the process of finding a finish we like, beginning with shellac, and even enter the realm of testing for a custom finish.

From Finish Samples we move to edging the drawers, where we'll address design elements and wood selection that will aid in finishing efficiencies.

The case takes a life on this webisode......ENJOY!!!!!
